Reducing emergency callouts with a better PPM schedule

Most emergency callouts are not surprises. They are predictable failures on assets that were overdue for service, or that were on a generic schedule rather than one built around how the asset is actually used.

Start from the asset register

A schedule is only as good as the register underneath it. If the register is out of date, the schedule services equipment that is no longer there and misses equipment that is.

Set frequency from failure data

Manufacturer guidance is a starting point, not an answer. After a year of records you can see which asset classes fail early and adjust frequency where it actually matters.

Measure the right thing

Track emergency callouts per site per quarter. If planned maintenance is working, that number falls. If it does not, the schedule needs changing rather than more visits adding cost.
